When buying any new tech, you want to know it’s built to last. How long can you expect your new IR panels to last?

The Numbers

Each of our IR panels has an expected lifespan of 100,000 hours. To put that in the most practical terms possible, you could run your panel 24/7 every single day of the year without switching it off and still get eleven years of use out of it.

Now, this isn’t a particularly great or effective way to use infrared heating. We’ll explain that in-depth a bit later on, but for now it’s comforting to know just how durable your panels are. Even if you use them in the least efficient and most wasteful manner possible, you’d still get to use it for a decade.

The Reasons

Infrared panels contain zero moving parts. There’s no air filters to clean, no internal parts that can collect dust. This means they’re under far less strain compared to just about any other kind of heating you can imagine. Movement is one of the biggest reasons any mechanical hardware fails, due to the friction build up.

Let’s take a traditional convection boiler system as an example, the kind most people in the UK use for their central heating. Between you requesting warmth from your thermostat and you actually feeling the heat there are so many intricate steps, and a lot of complex mechanical bits needed to make the whole process work.

That’s without getting into the inherent difficulties that water based systems face, such as the risk of freezing pipes.

Since these factors are entirely removed with IR panels, they enjoy a massive boost in their durability. During their long lifespans, an IR panel will require zero specialist maintenance, with no servicing required either.

To look after your panel properly, just make sure you give it an occasional wipe down with a clean cloth.

A Little Extra

So we mentioned that running your panel all day every day isn’t the smartest plan, because it’s really not necessary!

It’s important to remember that IR panels generate radiant heat, not convection heat. That means they’re at their best when you’re in the room with them, as they heat you, not the air around you. There’s not much reason to leave them running when you’re not with them.

Most people don’t want to leave their panels running all the time, but human error is an important factor, with people forgetting to turn them off when they’ve finished using them. Our Wi-Fi enabled range is a great counter to this, as you can check on and manage your heating wherever you are in the world.

Bearing these two facts in mind, you’ll be able to manage your heating more efficiently, and really expand your heater’s performance to its fullest potential.
