Mould growth is a problem every home can face if they’re not careful. Did you know your heating could be the key to solving it forever?

What’s The Deal With Mould?

When a building is not properly heated or ventilated, moisture gets trapped inside. Mould absolutely thrives in these conditions, but it also leads to damp spots. Both of these problems look pretty gross, but they also lead to damage to your building, as well as long term health issues.

Mould growth in particular is a nightmare for people with breathing difficulties such as asthma or various allergies. It can also be damaging to your immune system, meaning you’ll be more likely to suffer other health issues in the future.

Most instances of mould growth aren’t impossible to remove. The most infamous kind- black mould- is notorious enough that there are specific cleaning products designed to remove it. However, scrubbing it away isn’t dealing with the heart of the problem. Poor insulation and a lack of ventilation all contribute to making things worse.

But you could spend a fortune on improving your property and not end the problem, because you’ll still be using a convection heater.

Convection heaters create convection currents. That simply means they warm the air around them in a cycle. Mould spores, dust and cold spots all thrive in this system. They can ride the currents to get spread around your room. You’re basically providing them with a handy bus service!

The Infrared Solution

When it comes to eradicating mould, Infrared heating is one of the more effective options, and it’s a more permanent option that can lead to other benefits, unlike expensive dehumidifiers.

Infrared heating sends out heat in a completely different way compared to convection heaters- it doesn’t actually heat the air around it, instead it fires infrared beams around the room. This heats objects in the room, not the air.

Naturally, this reduces the issues with convection currents, but it also warms your walls. This  can help dry them out, reducing humidity and thus reducing dampness.

You can feel this difference for yourself when you stand in front of an infrared heater- it feels a lot drier, kind of like stepping into bright sunshine.

Is It Safe?

Yes.

OK, to get into more detail, Infrared heating is totally safe. You already see infrared radiation used in remote controls, cooking, burglar alarms and security lights. You also experience it whenever you step into sunlight, it’s the warm feeling on your skin.

Don’t get infrared radiation mixed up with UV radiation. The latter is what causes you to get a sunburn and can be dangerous. Infrared radiation doesn’t.

That means there’s no health trade off to using infrared to beat mould in your home. It’s not just not bad for you, it’s also actively good for you!
