Electric boilers will keep your home cosy and warm while using less energy compared to combustion boilers. What perks can you expect from swapping over?
1) They’re Quieter
Electric boilers don’t have as many moving elements as other sources of heat. Translation: They don’t make a lot of noise- you often won’t know your boiler is running! Say goodbye to that distinctive rumbling noise you sometimes get from gas boilers, you’ll be able to sleep soundly even if your electric boiler is installed near your bedroom.
2) They’re Small
Electric boilers don’t burn fuel on site, which means they don’t need a flue to vent potential toxic gases. This means they need only a little space, and they’re a lot easier to install in smaller spaces like closets.
3) They’re Efficient
One of the most obvious reasons to swap over to electric boilers is how they are significantly more efficient compared to combustion boilers. The most efficient combustion models will be 90% efficient, while the vast majority of electric boilers will be 99% efficient.
This is because there are far fewer steps between the boiler turning on and producing heat, which leads to a more direct conversion of electrical energy into thermal energy. That means it’s a lot easier to maintain a constant temperature, with a minimised risk of sudden fluxes.
This near 100% efficiency rate that’s sourced entirely from electric power means your boiler can be powered by solar panels, which makes them a potential eco-friendly option.
4) They’re Safer
Electric boilers don’t burn fuel on site, which leads to two key safety features.
Firstly, there’s no risk of toxic gas leaks. Carbon monoxide poisoning is a big worry for anyone using a combustion boiler, which can lead to numerous side effects.
Secondly, combustion is inherently a more dangerous way to get heat, simply because it involves burning fuel. This increases a risk of explosions, for example.
5) They’re Reliable
The lack of moving parts keeps electric boilers a lot quieter, but did you know this also makes them really easy to maintain? It’s because there’s a lot less movement and thus a lot less friction, which reduces strain on the whole system.
A simple service carried out once a year should be enough to keep things running as smoothly as possible, which is why you’ll see electric boilers with lifespans of between 15-25 years.
